The Helldorado Queen, a cherished tradition that began in 1936, is the face of the rodeo and pioneer spirit throughout the seasons. Participating in philanthropic activities, speaking engagements and extensive volunteer opportunities throughout the year, the Queen’s work seems to never cease.
While Queens seek no praise for giving back to the community, actress Dale Evans may have attracted the most attention for the position by playing the Helldorado Queen in the infamous 1946 Roy Rogers’ movie, “Heldorado.” Though Evans brought some silver screen limelight to the role, oftentimes the job requires rolling up your sleeves and slapping on some spurs.
Not only must she be talented, well-spoken and poised, the Helldorado Queen also must possess all the tenacity, grit and skill of a seasoned ranch hand. One of the most crucial demonstrations of these cowgirl skills is the intricate running of a specified pattern on horseback. The ideal candidate embodies how the West was really won: respect, hard work and perseverance.
